The Council chamber is locked down with only Liana and Sage left inside. What are his plans? How can Liana possible stop a madman that has all the power and she can’t seem to do anything for him?

Sage is really Ezikial Pine, one of the creators of the tower and is now trying to kill Cypio and replace him with someone new. He has tortured and forced the change of the code in two fragments to be on his side. One just stays in his head all the time and the other, Alice, copies herself into an army of sentinels.

Sage has complete control over Cypio, to the point that Cypio does whatever Sage says! Sage does the normal villain move and lets one of Alices sentinels kill Liana. Sage grabs Rose and Jasper and heads to the core to start making a new Cypio.

Liana manages to kill that sentinel in time to escape the Council room with Mechanic Green who has been shot by Sage at the end of the last book. Before Rose was taken, she copies herself and puts herself into the Alice sentinel to be able to escape.

If you can follow that, good, it only gets more confusing from here.

As liana is escaping the Council room, she remembers that Sage will be after Leo, so she has to get to her friends fast. Liana, Rose and Green go to the mechanics department to get the fragment that Green said she brought with her but is actually a way for him to download through it. They get him out in time so it wasn’t really a problem.

While there they collect a net from one of the legacies that was stationed there to stop anyone from getting in, but was pretty bad at his job. Then Liana downloads Greens fragment to her net.

Now Liana goes to the courters that she found Leo in. maybe there is something there that could help her. While there, a room opens up and shows a hologram of the creator of all the AI’s. He says he knew this would happen and gives her a way to stop Sage in his tracks.

Then Liana heads to save her friends at her courters. This is where she finds absolute chaos. There are an abundance of legacies trying to kill everyone in that room. During the fight, Gray/Leo is taken and Zoe is shot. Everyone else seems to be fine.

During the next couple hours, Liana spends moping about how her life sucks and everyone she loves dies (foreshadowing), and creates a plan to stop Sage.

First stop on this plan is to stop the creation of Alice sentinels. They go to the spot an blowup the machine creating them, but alerts a ton of them to where they are and run. Liana and her gang escape through a hatch and land in the middle of battle field between the undoc army and Liana’s Knights.

Once she gets through, the sentinels follow. That group of Knights have created a defense so Liana, Quess, Madics, and Eric go to the core. Just when they get out of sight of the Knights she put on defense, Liana looks back and sees a single sentinel come around the corner covered in blood. All of Liana’s Knights have been slaughtered.

After a grueling escape, they start to find their way to the core. The biggest obstacle is that they have to crawl through a pipe that is full of liquid nitrogen. As they start to get out, the door to escape the pipe is broken, so Quess does the honorable thing and tries to fix it from the inside, which he succeeds but also gets trapped inside and freezes to death.

To recap, all of Liana’s friends are dead except for Gray/Leo, Madics and Eric. All the Knights have been killed and this is all getting ready for the showdown between Sage and Liana at the core. To save everyone in the tower, all Liana has to do is tell Leo a certain passcode and the wold will be saved.

Now Liana and what’s left of her gang enter the room with sage, they find a way down and watch as Sage is beating the life out of Gray, demanding that Leo give up the codes to restart the tower. Gray is being stubborn and refusing to say anything.

Liana attempts to shoot Sage but misses and exposes herself and Eric. Madics starts shooting at the sentinels to try to hit their hard-drives. The sentinels then apprehend everyone and tie them up right in front of sage. Sage then steals the AI fragment out of Lianas net forcibly.

One of Alices sentinels snaps Erics neck to try to get Leo to tell the codes. Madics screams and tries to stop Sage by giving Leo the code that will save everyone, but before she can finish, she gets shot in the head.

Lianas friends are all dead. All of them except Gray/Leo who is getting tortured.

Then one of the Alice bots starts to strangle Liana to death. This is the spot that I personally would say would have been such a good ending for the series. It would have distinguished this series from every other dystopian novel.

Unfortunately, Leo says “Wait. Stop!” and the Alice bot lets her out of her grip. Liana gets knocked out and her vision goes black.

When she wakes back up, she is in a different room. While Sage is distracted, Liana yells the code to Leo.

Everyones brain is scanned and put into a data sphere. This is where an epic anime battle happens and really well written. At the very end of this, Liana kills Sage, Alices, and the fragment that was inside Sages head. Liana won.

Now the super confusing part happens. Liana wakes up and finds out that it was all a simulation. None of her friends have died. The simulation started when she went into Leos old courters.

Then the book goes on to say how they lived happily ever after.
